Pivot Doors
A pivot door swings on a central or offset pivot point rather than traditional side hinges, allowing for oversized panels that would be too heavy for conventional hinge hardware. Pivot doors create a bold, contemporary statement at any entry — the door rotates smoothly on a pin at the top and bottom, with the pivot point typically positioned 8 to 12 inches in from the side edge. This offset creates the dramatic effect of a narrow leading edge opening into a wide sweeping panel.
How Pivot Doors Work
Pivot hinges are machined into the top and bottom of the door, with corresponding hardware mortised into the jamb head (top horizontal frame member) and the sill or floor. Unlike butt hinges that carry the door’s weight on the side frame, pivot hardware transfers the load directly down through the floor, allowing much larger and heavier doors to operate effortlessly.
Wood Species
We build pivot doors from solid lumber in your specified species — Douglas fir, clear pine, mahogany, white oak, red oak, and others. The solid wood construction provides the weight and density that makes pivot operation feel substantial and secure.
Glass Options
Pivot doors can be solid (no glass), or built with glass lites — from a narrow vertical vision strip to a full glass panel. Insulated glass with Low-E for Title 24 compliance, or single-pane for protected entries. True divided lite (TDL) or simulated divided lite (SDL).

Pivot hardware is available in several finishes and weight ratings matched to the door size. We can match existing hardware or supply new.
