Pair Casement Windows
A pair casement is two casement sashes side by side in a single frame, hinged on the outer edges so they open from the center — like a pair of French doors. One sash swings left, the other swings right, creating a wide, unobstructed opening. Pair casements are a popular choice for living rooms, dining areas, and any space where you want maximum ventilation and an expansive view.
Operating Options
Pair casements can be configured in three ways:
- Crank-out — a rotary handle opens the sash outward; the mechanism is hidden in the frame when closed
- Push-out — butt hinges with a manual pull handle; the sash pushes outward with no crank mechanism
- In-swing — hinges on the interior so the sash swings inward; useful where exterior swing space is limited
Locking Mechanism & Hardware
Crank-out casements can be locked in many different ways, including multipoint locking systems that secure the sash at multiple points along the frame. Push-out and in-swing configurations provide different options for hardware — from simple lever locks to surface-mounted bolts and shoot bolts — depending on the swing direction and sash size. Each operating type also offers different screen options: crank-out windows typically use exterior roll-out screens, while push-out and in-swing windows can accept interior or exterior screens depending on the swing direction.
Wood Species & Construction
Built from solid lumber in your specified species — Douglas fir, clear pine, mahogany, white oak, and others. Mortise and tenon joinery throughout. Each sash is sized to your opening.
Glass & Divided Lites
Insulated glass with Low-E for Title 24, or single-pane for historic work. True divided lite (TDL) or simulated divided lite (SDL) — choose the muntin pattern that matches your home’s style.
Matching Existing Casements
For additions and restorations, we can replicate existing pair casement profiles, hinge configuration, and muntin patterns — even if the original manufacturer is no longer in business.
