A Dutch door or “half” door is similar to a colonial door in that it has additional horizontal “rails” separating the glass section and the wooden panel section but the door is split at these rails. A dutch door is essentially two small doors that are hung in one frame. A Dutch door is used when the top portion can be open for light and breeze while the bottom portion needs to be closed to prevent movement of living things or objects. Optional “Shelf” is available on the top of the bottom portion with or without decorative wood pieces called “corbels” below the shelf.
